A Day on Tamborine Mountain

Tamborine Mountain is a staple for visitors when they come to see us. It is only a little over an hour from Brisbane but feels worlds away once you are up in the mountains.

Since I have taken quite a few visitors to this spot I thought I would share my go to itinerary for a fun filled day on Tamborine Mountain.

To make the most of the day it’s best to get up and out of Brisbane first thing in the morning. My first stop is to the Polish Place for a coffee and a visit with the birds. Doing my research for this post I found out that the restaurant and residence burned down in a fire in December. According to their Facebook page they are rebuilding the iconic establishment, so I will be sure to keep an eye out for a re-opening date.

Since the Polish Place isn’t an option anymore, I would check out Green Lane Coffee Plantation  where you can get a tour of the plantation with your cup of Joe.

After a coffee or your beverage of choice, I would check out one or two of the nearby walking paths or hikes. For a short but scenic rain forest walk with a waterfall picture op, The Curtis Falls track is a good choice for all fitness levels.

During the warmer months, pack your bathers and head down to Cedar Creek Falls. There are two other waterfall hikes- Witches Falls and Cameron Falls that you could also check out. Luckily none of the hikes are too long, so you have time to do more than one if you wish.

If you want to get high up in the trees and don’t mind spending a little money on your walk, there is also the Skywalk as an option. Adult tickets will run you $19.50 and kids 6 and up are $9.50.

We enjoyed the walk when we went, but you can see pretty similar sights on the free walks around the mountain.

After checking out some nature or taking a dip, head up to The Gallery Walk. This is where you can do a bit of shopping, taste some fudge and grab lunch. Fortitude Brewing Company is right there too, if you want to grab a cold one or check out some live music if it’s the weekend. It’s not just a brewery, they have a full menu and a cheese shop (where you can build your own cheese board) and a bonus- it’s kid friendly! There is plenty of space to let the little ones run around and dance to the music while you enjoy a drink or meal.

Another choice for lunch on the Gallery Walk is Mount Tamborine Winery where you can taste a few wines before you eat and then enjoy your meal on the patio.

After seeing the sights and dodging the tourists on the gallery walk, it is time for my favorite activity. Head to Witches Falls Winery for a tasting, throw down a rug and hang out on their picturesque grounds. There are a few other wineries on the mountain, but this is my favorite. It is small, but oozing charm and their cellar door is award winning.

If you are still on the mountain as evening approaches, make sure you stop at one of the many lookouts to catch the sunset before heading back to Brissy.

  • Your very exotic post makes me want to get out of the city and hang out with some colorful parrots! What an awesome shot him stealing some of your shake! #WanderfulWednesday

    • Thanks! That shake is actually an iced coffee in Australia! I learned the hard way that if you aren’t specific you get iced cream in your iced coffee here.

  • You had me at wineries, but I still can’t get over how beautiful all of the views are either! This really does sound like the perfect day trip from Brisbane, and it’s no wonder you like to take your our of town guests there. That’s a bummer that your favorite coffee shop closed down, but thankfully they’re rebuilding!

    • I know, I was so shocked when I looked it up and it said permanently closed so I had to look further.

  • This looks like a pretty magical place!!

  • Omg those birds!!! And what a proper jungle to explore! I’d love to spend a day (or week?!) in the area!

    • We always say we need to rest a little cottage on the mountain for the weekend but have never gotten around to it.

  • I’m not far from there at all! I might have to take your advise. Thanks so much for such a detailed itinerary!

  • stunning! and a what a cute bird 🙂 #wanderfulwednesday

  • This is absolutely gorgeous! Love the pictures of the waterfalls and those birds are beautiful!

    • The birds are so entertaining to watch too, they will attack the sugar packets on your table if you aren’t careful.

  • Those birds are so colorful they hardly look real! The waterfall looks amazing!

  • Check out those views 😮 And so good to be able to enjoy good food and drink whilst enjoying said views! So I’m coming to Brisbane in July, we should catch up! I’ll send you a message…
